Okomu National Park is today a parastatal falling under the Federal Ministry for Environment.
1912, 1935: Various parts of the forest gazetted by the then State Government.
1985: Bendel State Government gazettes the Okomu Wildlife sanctuary. White-throated guenon declared a conservation priority and Okomu forest reserve a priority reserve for its development and management.
1987: Nigerian Conservation Foundation adopts Okomu and launches the Okomu Forest project.
1991: Bendel State divided into Edo and Delta States and control of the forest reserve passed to Edo State.
1999: Formal handing over of Reserve by the Edo State Government to National Park Service. |
